IONIS was born in the hills of the Valle d'itria, between the Ionian and Adriatic Seas, where the landscape is rich in trulli, ancient farmhouses, vineyards, wines, and Baroque art; where tradition blends with a glorious food and wine heritage.
The unwritten rules that have accompanied us for more than 40 years: passion for wine and for the land, for family and entrepreneurship.
We are committed to producing wines that tell the story of the nature and climate of our Puglia.
The Puglia region and its winemaking tradition are closely linked by a thousand-year history. Puglia is nestled between two seas (the Adriatic and the Ionian), where intense sunshine and constant winds create a perfect microclimate for vines.
The Itria Valley represents the green and white heart of Puglia, a unique hilly region where vines have been integrated for millennia into a heavily anthropized yet pristine rural landscape.
The iconic municipalities are Locorotondo, Martina Franca, Cisternino, Ceglie Messapica, and Alberobello.
The crucial factor is the sharp nighttime temperature variations, caused by winds blowing from both the Adriatic and Ionian Seas. This temperature difference preserves the grapes' acidity and locks in the aromas.
We use lighter glass bottles to reduce weight and fuel consumption, reducing air pollution throughout the entire logistics chain. Furthermore, the use of heat and water vapor to sanitize tanks and bottling lines eliminates the use of harsh chemical detergents, protecting groundwater.
